Clinical Nutrition

What is Clinical Nutrition?

Functional Medicine incorporates the use of clinical & integrative nutrition to re-establish normal optimal functional biochemical pathways. Clinical nutrition is the study of the relationship between food, nutrients and its beneficial effects within the body. Specifically, Functional Medicine physicians are well versed in the science of nutrients and how they are digested, absorbed, transported, catabolized, anabolized, stored, and eliminated by the body. The goal of prescribing nutrition should integrate the known and unknown bio-complexities that exist naturally in food. This goes beyond just studying how food works in the body. Clinical integrative nutritionists are interested in all phases of nutrition from seed to store to mouth to metabolic functioning. These clinicians have the unique understanding as to how the environment affects the quality and safety of foods and its affect on health and disease.
